Most people have thought at some point about the role of destiny, fate or agency in the role of shaping our lives, what we now know as history, or determining our future. I choose agency and free will as the main force because it is the only framework that focuses on choices we can make and recognizes the consequences of our actions or inactions.
We are at a crossroads where we need to decide who we are and who we want to be as a species as humankind. If we don’t identify where we want to go, we won’t get there. Will we destroy ourselves through greed, retribution, short-term thinking, cruelty, pettiness, or indifference? Will we focus on the healing we need around the world to forge a new renaissance of human potential, relationships, and how to be citizens of a finite earth together to build a shared peace and prosperity?
